JOCELYN FRANK: In Durban, South Africa, in the beginning of 2005, the children's choir of the Agape Orphanage was just about done recording their first CD.įRANK: On a quieter street in Queens on the middle of the block there's an unassuming house. As Jocelyn Frank reports on their trip to New York, the choir connected with the family of a little girl whose generosity inspired a circle of giving. One of the stars of last year's concert was the Agape Choir, a group of AIDS orphans from Durban, South Africa. The concert raises money to fight AIDS around the world. Requirements: Being a member of Agape for at least 6 months and being of service in one of the ministries in the community and/or taking classes through Agape University for at least 6 months.Every year a group called Keep a Child Alive hosts a benefit concert called the Black Ball. The choir opens once a year and those wanting to join just come to rehearsal and sing the chorus of “I Release.” The choir audition remains open for about a month and reopens in the following year. Additionally, the choir takes the love to the streets, bringing light and tremendous joy to downtown Culver City and LA’s Skid Row, with an inclusive program steeped in healing music and messages of self-acceptance and empowerment. The Agape Choir has been honored to perform in venues such as the 2008 Democratic National Convention and Inauguration in Washington DC., at Lincoln Center, the United Nations, The Hollywood Bowl, Greek Theatre, John Anson Ford Theatre and The Getty Museum. The choir sings on the last Sunday of every month at their spiritual home, the Agape International Center. ![]() Under the beautiful direction of Marianne Lewis, The Agape International Choir raises the roof and helps to raise consciousness wherever they go. ![]() When these voices join together, something positively breathtaking occurs, bringing transformation and true joy to the planet.
